About Professional Learning

[img] classroom session Professional learning for teachers and trainers is a key to maintaining effective practice. Education and training can no longer be seen as a 'front end' activity at the beginning of a career. In a world of rapid and dramatic change teachers and trainers need to develop lifelong learning skills. This is especially so if they are to design and deliver learning programs that will develop these same skills and attributes in their students.

Professional learning activities and programs should focus on improving the teaching-learning relationships, and allow educators to further develop their skills and expertise. Educators should also be encouraged to share their professional development experiences, to sustain the culture of performance and development across the education sectors. Through encouraging individuals to seek and share professional development, education and training providers will foster openness, dialogue, inquiry, risk-taking and trust, and develop innovative and creative learning communities.
