Welcome to Knowledge Bank

Knowledge Bank is a dedicated online site for teachers and other educators to share, discuss and collate innovative ideas and examples of "next" practices, especially those from Victorian schools. Knowledge Bank's aim is to be a credible and trusted resource for teachers and others in the emerging world of digitally-based teaching and learning. It is also a place for Victorian teachers and others, to contribute their authentic experiences, expertise and insights into educational innovations – i.e., what works and why.

Knowledge Bank offers Victorian teachers the means to showcase their innovative practices in teaching and learning to other teachers and educators, both in Victoria and beyond. It is also a place which facilitates pathways to professional dialogue through sponsoring events such as online conferencing, emerging technologies trials or by highlighting the latest research exploring the educational value of innovation.

Knowledge Bank 2008 Online Conference: 22-23 July 2008
Learning in a changing world – Web 2.0 and beyond

Sighnup

The Knowledge Bank online conference this year was focused on Web 2.0 in education:  what it is, how it’s being used today and it’s potential to radically change education.

Keynote speaker Steve Hargadon writes:
I believe that the Web 2.0 will culturally, socially, intellectually, and politically have a greater impact than the advent of the printing press. We cannot even begin to imagine the changes that are going to take place as the two-way nature of the Internet begins to flower, and even those of us who have spent time imagining this future will be astounded by what happens.”  From - Web 2.0 is the future of the education

See the conference's wiki for recordings of the sessions on the conference website (http://knowledgebankconference2008.globalteacher.org.au) as well as a host of references, tips and ideas.

Technology Grants for Innovative Schools
Managed through DEECD's Innovation and Next Practice (I&NP) Division, funding was available for eligible schools to undertake projects utilising emerging information and communication technologies to implement innovative teaching and learning practices.

There was an excellent response to the funding offer and more than 62 schools will share 56 grants to trial emerging information and communication technologies in the classroom to enhance student engagement and understanding of curriculum, create digital stories using multimedia technology and run online conferences. More information about the sponsored projects will be available soon.

Teacher Professional Leave Case Studies
Participants of the Teacher Professional Leave program have agreed to share their learning in a number of ways, including the publication of a TPL case study on Knowledge Bank. For TPL recipients, there is a single Knowledge Bank template for individuals and teams, and only one case study per TPL project is required (see 2008 TPL case study template (DOC - 56Kb)).

TPL case studies considered outstanding and/or are of particular interest to the educational community will be invited to share their learning through the social networking tools supported by Knowledge Bank Next Generation, beginning in 2009.

Submitting TPL case studies to Knowledge Bank
For 2008, TPL case studies need to follow the Teacher Professional Leave program’s process for submission (DOC - 38Kb). For enquiries regarding the TPL program, please visit the TPL website.
