About Whole School Improvement

[img] students sitting on grassStudent outcomes depend on the professional leadership, management and integration of financial, physical, human and intellectual resources. These in turn depend on planning, governance, accountability and review arrangements, which are themselves influenced by the relationships the school has with its immediate, local and wider communities. A 'whole school' approach to education should also ensure that these elements are consistent with the institution's visions and goals, and with the curriculum, teaching and learning and professional learning arrangements.

This is equally true for education and training providers in the VET and ACE sectors as it is for schools. Schools and other providers monitor the health of the various elements for effectiveness, robustness and coherence. Whole school improvement then is about continuous improvement of these important aspects of the school that contribute to the development of a 'learning organisation' climate.
