Welcome to Knowledge Bank

Knowledge Bank is a dedicated online site for teachers and other educators to share, discuss and collate innovative ideas and examples of "next" practices, especially those from Victorian schools. Knowledge Bank's aim is to be a credible and trusted resource for teachers and others in the emerging world of digitally-based teaching and learning. It is also a place for Victorian teachers and others, to contribute their authentic experiences, expertise and insights into educational innovations – i.e., what works and why.

Knowledge Bank offers Victorian teachers the means to showcase their innovative practices in teaching and learning to other teachers and educators, both in Victoria and beyond. It is also a place which facilitates pathways to professional dialogue through sponsoring events such as online conferencing, emerging technologies trials or by highlighting the latest research exploring the educational value of innovation.

The Knowledge Bank online conference this year is focused on Web 2.0 in education:  what it is, how it’s being used today and it’s potential to radically change education.

Web 2.0 is not new – but what might happen to teachers and learners as it becomes mainstream?  We’ll look at the concepts and see Web 2.0 in practice over the six sessions of the conference.  Sign up now and visit the conference website for more information.

Keynote speaker Steve Hargadon writes:
I believe that the Web 2.0 will culturally, socially, intellectually, and politically have a greater impact than the advent of the printing press. We cannot even begin to imagine the changes that are going to take place as the two-way nature of the Internet begins to flower, and even those of us who have spent time imagining this future will be astounded by what happens.”  From - Web 2.0 is the future of the education

There’s no need to leave your computer – this event will be happening online using Elluminate - but you do need to sign up and get set up to use Elluminate.

The new Knowledge Bank Website
A new Knowledge Bank (Next Generation) website is currently being developed. The proposed site will have many new features and is a "one stop shop" for all teachers to source information about best practice initiatives in schools, tools and resources (including digital objects) and enhanced functionality to better support web tools such as online conferencing or the sharing of digital stories. The site will also have a much improved search engine to assist teachers and other users to  locate content quickly.

Technology Grants for Innovative Schools

Managed through DEECD's Innovation and Next Practice (I&NP) Division, funding was available for eligible schools to undertake projects utilising emerging information and communication technologies to implement innovative teaching and learning practices.

There was an excellent response to the funding offer and more than sixty-two (62) schools will share fifty-six (56) grants to trial emerging information and communication technologies in the classroom to enhance student engagement and understanding of curriculum, create digital stories using multimedia technology and run online conferences. More information about the sponsored projects will be available soon.
