Education Week

Education Week will be celebrated by Victorian government schools and kindergartens from 18-24 May 2008.

During the week, schools and kindergartens are encouraged to hold activities that engage parent and community networks while profiling their learning opportunities and achievements.

Open days, art shows, musical performances and other special events are among the many activities that give an insight into the vibrant education settings in which young Victorians learn, thrive and grow.

Schools and kindergartens that participate in Education Week can register their activities for promotion on this website and in a media kit being developed the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. See Register your Activity.

Highlights of Education Week will include:

  • Awards – Long Service, Parent, Retiring School Councillor and Community Service awards are presented the Department of Education recognising long and exemplary service to education in Victoria.
  • Victorian Education Excellence Awards – presented by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development at a gala dinner, these awards recognise outstanding contributions made by teachers, leaders and school services/support officers to their schools and school communities
  • Premier’s VCE Awards – recognise students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Victorian Certificate of Education
  • Back to School Day (http://www.backtoschoolday.com.au/) – high profile media, sports and business identities visit their former primary and secondary schools to share their success stories
